WAVS equips hundreds of young men and women with life-changing job skills each year so they can work for a brighter future. And at the same time, we tell every student about the hope they have in Jesus! Our local teachers share a simple message: Jesus changes everything – how we work, live, and love others.

At WAVS vocational schools, we set aside time each week in the classroom for students to hear the Word of God and learn about His plan for their lives. Our staff also gather for their own weekly devotionals so that they can encourage each other in their faith as they invest in the lives of their students.

We’d like to invite you to join us in sharing the hope of Jesus with more students this next year. This December, we’re asking for your help to raise $30,000 to purchase Bibles in English and French (two language skills taught at WAVS) and provide staff with resources and training to help them share the Word of God with their students next year.

And thanks to generous donors, all gifts made before the end of the year will be 100% matched until we reach the goal!

Thank you for making a gift that lasts for eternity!

Large Group devotional

Every Monday, each class gathers with other classes at the same start time to go through that week’s devotional materials. This new large group format lasts 30 minutes and has given the staff time to go deeper with the students. It has also given non-teaching staff the opportunity to lead devotionals with the students, including our security guard!

A group of past welding students from a class at the Canchungo campus, where the impact went beyond just job skills. Sergio, a graduate of this class, shared, “What I learned at the school is that, as humans, we are nothing. It’s only what God allows us to do that we’re able to accomplish anything. It’s because God has given me the ability to weld that I’m able to do what I’m doing today.” Another graduate, Nilton, reflected, “I don’t just want to do my work quickly. I want to do my work with love. God has given me the power to be a welder.”

Class devotionals have been part of the framework of the WAVS schools since the beginning. Martha Reynolds, WAVS founder, is seen here helping lead devotions in a sewing class at the Canchungo campus.

training staff on how to lead devotionals

During staff trainings, one of the areas that is focused on is how to conduct devotionals in the classroom. Several years ago, Pastor João Mendes was asked to coach staff during one of their trainings at the Canchungo campus.

Staff participate in team devotionals every week and during staff trainings. During staff training, each day starts off with a devotional led by a staff member. Dalton Da Silva led the devotional this day.

As part of staff devotionals, the team spends time in worship together.

Staff devotional word scramble

During a recent staff training, one of the activities was a Bible verse jigsaw puzzle to figure out what the theme verses for this school year were going to be!
