A new format for devotional time
This term we’re trying something new! Instead of each teacher individually giving a devotional in class, we’re gathering all students at each time slot together for a larger and extended devotional time!
Staff participate in annual team training before the new school year
One of the workshops during staff training was about different learning styles! Everyone took a test to discover their learning style and then learned about different techniques for engaging each type.
Welding intern kickstarts his career with new welding kit
The welding kit is awarded to welding interns after they spend a year assisting in class. The kit includes a starting welder as well as other essential tools. Alfacene has already completed several commissions since receiving the kit!

During the staff training, one of the activities was a Bible verse jigsaw puzzle to figure out what the theme verses for this school year were going to be!
One of the first projects welding students learn to make are fugaderos. They are small charcoal stoves used for cooking. This is what a typical Guinean family uses to cook all their meals. Charcoal is piled in the top half and then a pot or grill is placed on top to cook the meals.

Staff Playing the “Bottle Flip Relay”
Each year, staff have an extended week of training and team building before the start of the school year. During this years training, one of everyone’s favorite activity was the bottle flip relay!

Meet Espéria “Ma” Jecira Muscuta Fati
Meet WAVS first female welding student! Her first few days, she was intimidated to use a disc grinder to smooth out welds – however now it’s her favorite part of welding!
She enjoys the technical challenges of welding and the confidence that comes from overcoming something that she previously thought she couldn’t do. Her future goal is to open a workshop where she hopes to inspire and train others.
“I just want to thank the people who helped build the school. May God give them strength and courage.”
